Parshuram Kund

Parshuram Kund is one of the most sacred ponds in Janakpur, associated with the legendary sage Parshuram (also known as Parashurama), an avatar of Lord Vishnu known as the warrior-sage who wielded an axe. This holy water body stands among the holiest ponds alongside Ganga Sagar and Dhanush Sagar.

Sage Parshuram holds a significant place in Hindu mythology as the sixth avatar of Vishnu, known for ridding the earth of corrupt Kshatriya rulers twenty-one times. His association with Janakpur connects to the broader narrative of the Ramayana—according to some accounts, Parshuram appeared at Sita's swayambar and challenged Rama after he broke Lord Shiva's bow, testing whether Rama was truly worthy of wielding such divine power.

The pond is part of Janakpurdham's remarkable collection of over 72 ancient ponds of historical and mythological importance—earning the city its reputation as the "City of Ponds" in Nepal.
